About Selkie

Welcome to Selkie, I’m so happy to have you here. My name is Bayley Elliott, and I am the founder and coach behind Selkie Personal Training.

My journey with fitness began many years ago during my time as a competitive dancer. Every afternoon after school and every weekend were spent in class or at competitions. I am incredibly grateful that, during my formative years, I engaged in a sport and art form that fostered a strong connection between my mind and body.

When I eventually transitioned into strength training after high school, I realised just how capable my body truly was, and I found this incredibly exciting. I have never, and will never, subscribe to the idea that women shouldn’t strength train. I have always found great joy, and even a certain sense of rebellion, in teaching women how to lift and build strength.

Watching my clients discover their own potential over the years is endlessly thrilling. It brings a kind of fulfilment I will never tire of.

When the idea for Selkie first struck me, I thought, “Finally, I can create the kind of gym environment I always wished I had when I was first learning.” I deeply understand how intimidating it can be to walk into a gym as a woman or as a queer person. I know the feeling of wanting to run and hide when it feels like all eyes are on you.

That understanding is why I wanted to create a personal training business that completely removes that fear. Selkie is a space where clients can train as their true selves, free from judgement and criticism from the outside world. Selkie is truly a safe space for women, queer people, and gender-diverse people of all fitness levels who want to get stronger for themselves.
